Logitech G430/G432 Mic Not Working: Causes & Fixes

Imagine you’re playing a game with a group of friends or acquaintances. There’s a lot of excitement in the air and you know that this day will be talked about for a long time.

Everything is perfect except for one thing: When you talk, they can’t hear a word of what you’re saying. But you can hear them all. Tragic? Correct. That is the experience when your Logitech G430 or G432 won’t work.

Virtual meetings, PS4 games, and others come alive with the Logitech headset. But the problem starts when the microphone on the device fails to work. The virtual experience loses a lot of the appeal it normally would have. Let’s talk about why this happens and what you can do to fix it.

Logitech G430/G432 Not Working: Likely Causes

The audio driver is outdated: Drivers are what make it possible for your computer to do all the wonderful things you love. The audio driver powers your sound. That’s the reason people can hear you talk through a computer or game console. It is also what makes a headset an important device in this virtual world of ours. But those drivers need to be kept updated to continue to function properly. Think of it as part of your maintenance procedure. It will help you to have the right view. Using outdated drivers is like using an old part with a new part. It never ends well.

No access to the microphone: If you don’t have access to something, you don’t. There is no middle ground. Like it or not, in the world of technology, access is everything. If your Logitech headphones can’t connect with your computer’s microphone, that could be an issue. One that will prevent you from using the microphone. Luckily, there are ways to correct this and resume talking with your friends and associates online. We’ll share some steps with you in a bit. For now, let’s talk about another likely reason your mic isn’t working.

Wrong sound settings: Whether it’s something we do with our gadgets or with other humans, we all make mistakes. Which is why it’s no surprise that the mic of a Logitech headset isn’t working because someone made a mistake. Entering the wrong sound settings can cause a problem with your audio. It may be that you disabled the mic on your computer or didn’t set the headset and mic as the default device for the PC. A quick check of your sound settings and correcting this error can spare you an uncomfortable trip to an IT store.

There’s a bug in the Logitech game software: Don’t get me wrong, Logitech is a reputable company that makes good quality devices. The G430 and G432 are only two of them. But they are not immune to glitches or bugs. These things pop up from time to time in any piece of software. There are units in the departments of big IT firms that work at removing those bugs and correcting the glitches as they come up. Still, those glitches and bugs will be a setback for you from time to time.

Windows Cortana has taken over your audio: As a virtual assistant, Cortana, made for Windows 10, was created to make your life easier. You can ask it to do things and give you information. All you need to do is say what you want. It takes control of the mic of your PC, listens to your voice, and obeys your instructions. This same software can be the cause of your audio snag. As it takes control of your mic, it can keep your headset from gaining access to it. It doesn’t matter to the ever-helpful Cortana that you need it to let go. It’s up to you to force it to let go by taking decisive action, but we’ll talk about that later.

Logitech G430/G432 Mic Not Working? Here’s How to Fix

Update the audio driver

To get the microphone of your headset to work, you can try updating the audio driver. One way is to visit Driver Easy’s website and scroll down so you can click on the “Download Driver Easy Now” button. Run the application and select the “Scan Now” option. The software will look for faulty drivers and missing ones. Click on the “Update” button next to the sound card shown on the menu to get the right drivers. You’ll need to update and install each driver one after the other. The final thing to do is restart your computer and test the mic of your headset. If this doesn’t work, try the next step.

Give the headphone access to your microphone

As we said earlier, your headphones need to gain access to your PC mic. If your gaming computer runs on Windows 10, the following steps will guide you:

  1. Press the Windows logo key on the left side of your keyboard.
  2. Under “Windows Settings” select “Privacy”.
  3. The next thing to do is click on “Microphone” in the drop-down menu on the left and confirm that “microphone access for this device is on”. Connect your Logitech headset and test the mic again.

It is important to check the microphone status of the particular game you are trying to play to be sure that it’s turned on.

Change the sound settings

If you’ve allowed the headset to access your gaming laptop’s mic and the microphone still doesn’t work, try changing the sound settings.

  1. Put your mouse or cursor on the volume icon near the bottom right section of your Windows desktop.
  2. With your mouse or cursor still over the volume icon, right-click to reveal the menu and select “Sounds”. The sound settings will come up in the new menu.
  3. Click on the first tab on the left, the “Playback” tab, and make your microphone the default device.
  4. Select the next tab and click on it, then take your mouse to any blank space inside the box and right-click. A small menu will appear. Select “Show Disabled Devices.” Your disabled microphone will show up on the screen.
  5. Put the mouse on your microphone and right-click on it then select “Enable” if it is not already selected.
  6. Once again, right-click on your microphone and choose “Set as default device”.
  7. Right-click on your microphone and select “Properties.” You’ll see the different menus under it.
  8. Click the third tab, the “Levels” tab and set the volume to 100.
  9. Apply the changes you’ve made and restart the computer.
  10. At this point, connect your Logitech headset and test the mic again.

Uninstall and reinstall the Logitech gaming software

You should try this step if you still haven’t made any headway. Just uninstall the Logitech gaming software. Here’s how:

Search for the “Control Panel” on your computer and open it. Click on “Programs” and select “Uninstall” a program. Wait for it to finish uninstalling. Visit Logitech G Hub and download the latest gaming software.

Your headset should work after doing this. But there’s one last thing to try if it doesn’t.

Disable Windows Cortana

There’s one thing we haven’t yet eliminated as the root cause of the microphone problem. It is Cortana. To get Cortana to give up control of your mic, you will need to disable it.

Download and install Advanced SystemCare. Run the application and click on the “Toolbox” menu. Under the “Security and Repair” sub-menu, click on “MyWin10”. You will see “Cortana Settings” in the section on the left, click on it and select “OFF” under “Enable Cortana”.

These steps are enough to get your Logitech microphone working again. All it takes is a little bit of patience and attention to detail. The gaming experience in store for you is well worth it.
